    Diagnose the Issue

    3 Common Problems

Is your car's A/C blowing hot air? Is the heat barely warming up the cabin? Our professionals can diagnose exactly what's wrong and get your system running right — the first time.

    A/C Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant leaks happen more often in winter when the A/C isn't used. Seals dry out, refrigerant levels drop, and warm air blows instead of cold. A leak test is legally required before recharging your system.

    Electrical Issue

Loose connections, damaged wires, blown fuses, or broken temperature sensors can all cause A/C failure. Left unaddressed, acid builds up and corrodes components — sometimes requiring a full system replacement.

    Heater Core Problems

Heating issues are frequently caused by heater core difficulties: coolant not flowing properly, blower air not reaching the core, or a clog in the heater core's small tubing.

    Don't Ignore These

    A/C Warning Signs

When your vehicle's air conditioning isn't working — or is on its way out — watch for these three warning signs that something may be wrong.

    Blowing Hot Air

Hot air from your A/C often signals a serious problem. Water inside the system combines with refrigerant to form corrosive acid that eats rubber seals, causing refrigerant leaks and loss of cooling power.

    Weird or Musty Smell

A funky smell from your vents could mean mold is present — often caused by a damp or dirty cabin air filter or a blocked drain in the evaporator case.

    Weak Airflow

Excess moisture in the evaporator core can build mold and debris that blocks airflow. Weak pressure may also signal a restriction in the evaporator core or a failing blower motor.

    How Your A/C Works

Your car's air conditioning compresses refrigerant through several valves and small radiators until it reaches the evaporator, where it cools. This occurs as the refrigerant changes between liquid and gaseous states — the phase change absorbs heat and lowers the temperature.

The blower motor then pushes air over the evaporator before it enters your vehicle's cabin. This process takes a minute or two, so the air initially feels the same as outside air before cooling down.

Refrigerant absorbs and releases heat in several stages. It's a unique formulation made specifically for vehicle A/C systems. For auto air conditioners, we use both R-134A and the newer R-1234YF refrigerant — whichever your vehicle requires.

    FAQs

    A/C & Heating Q&A

Why is my car's AC blowing warm air?

The most common causes are low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failing compressor, a clogged cabin air filter, or a bad blend door actuator. Pitt Stop offers AC diagnostic service in Xenia to pinpoint the issue. Call (937) 352-6616.

How often should I recharge my car's AC?

A properly sealed AC system should not need regular recharging. If yours is losing cold every year or two, there's a leak that needs to be found and fixed. We find and repair the leak, then recharge, so you're not paying twice.

What does an AC diagnostic include?

We inspect the compressor, condenser, evaporator, hoses, and cabin filter, then pressure-test the system for leaks. You get a full written estimate before any repair work begins.

Why does my heater blow cold instead of warm?

Usually a stuck thermostat, low coolant, a failed heater core, or a bad blend door. Driving with a broken heater in an Ohio winter is miserable and unsafe — bring it to Pitt Stop Tire & Auto in Xenia and we'll get it fixed.
